| Beef Jerky Survey.. Can you help me out here? | | Ok, lately my husband has been living in the kitchen making homemade beef jerky. He takes it to work everyday and sells it and is making almost his wages just from the jerky. We have been thinking it might be worth trying to expand on the idea and sell it around the country.I wanted some input from the mylot Jerky eaters.What 'flavours' do you like best? (teriyaki, hot, etc)
Do you like strips of roast, or do you prefer jerky made from ground meat?
What would you pay for 6 ounces of beef jerky? We noticed an 80 gram package around here sells for about $6 (canadian dollars)Do you think there is any other meat that makes a good jerky? We can't sell wild game. It's against the ministry regulations..although he dose make it to eat himself. | |
| | What is your favorite cold-weather meal? | | With fall approaching, and cooler temperatures, we start thinking about those comfort dishes that we like to eat in the fall and winter. We usually eat more soups and stews when the temperatures start dropping, and I use my crockpot more to make one-dish meals. I would have to say that a big pot of homemade beef stew is my favorite. | Cooking with my DD | | I have had some recent bonding with my Daughter. She is almost 4 and she loves to cook. SHe is so adorable and gets all excited. Her most recent new obsession is Rachel Ray. Which, I think is so funny. She saw her on TV and shes like MOMMY Thats Rachel Ray she cooks healthy foods:) I had to laugh!!! So today we had fun making homemade beef stew and tonight we are making jello jigglers:) Its so much fun to be able to see her enjoying herself ... She said to me today "I want to be a mommy just like you when i get big" ... It almost made me cry:) | |
| | I did it! I developed a soup for diabetics! | | Bee's Vegetable Soup for DiabeticsIngredients:4 cups chicken broth -- homemade*1
2 cups tomatoes -- canned
1/2 cup onions -- chopped
1/2 cup carrots -- thinly sliced
1/2 cup celery -- diagonally sliced
1/2 cup red pepper -- coarsely chopped*2
1/2 teas salt*3
2 tbsps lemon juice -- fresh
5 peppercorns -- whole
1/2 teas hot pepper sauce
1/2 cup pasta -- penne*4*1 homemade beef, vegetable or turkey stock can be substituted if you substitute canned broth omit salt
*2 green pepper can be substituted
*3 omit salt if using canned broth
*4 any other small pasta can also be usedCombine all ingredients except pasta in a 3 to 4 quart pot. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer gently for 1 hour. Stir occasionally to break up tomatoes into bite size pieces.Add pasta and cook for 5-7 minutes, until done.
