Showerheads Discussions And How To's
| Do you let the water run while showering? | | You just got back home from work and you are so tired that you can practically sleep at the door. You just finished scrubbing the pots and mopping the floor and you forgot how good it was to sit and do nothing. You just got drenched in a heavy downpour and all you want is to get out of this mess.Welcome to the invention of a shower head.:PNo matter how much you might procrastinate before stepping into the shower, you are going to love it when you get there. If you would just close your eyes and imagine the soothing water washing over you, I can guarantee that you will feel more relaxed already.I have a question for you. Do you let the water run while showering? Or do you stop it while you are soaping? I confess that I usually let the water run - simply because the feeling of water massaging my body is sublime. I know I am wasting water but I just can't help it.Do you know that according to http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/yourhome/technical/fs21.htm#showers, an average shower head uses up about 15 litres of water every min? So even if you go for a quick 5 min shower, it would be 75 litres used up already. Can you imagine how many cups 75 litres can fill?So are... | |

In the winter, reverse your ceiling fan motor so that the blades drive the warm air back down around the edges of the room.2. Close drapes, blinds and shades at night to help retain heat.3. | | 5 lo-cost ways to go green at home | | 1. "if just 10 homeowners replaced their older appliances with EnergyStar®-qualified ones, it would be equivalent to planting 1.7 million new acres of trees."
2. "Turning down the thermostat in cold weather and inching it up during the warm months can save as much as 3-5 percent for each degree adjustment. In fact, as much as 60 percent of your energy bill may be heating and cooling related. Get some new clothes for your hot water heater by placing an insulating jacket around it (usually costs under $20) and outfit your pipes for even less.
HVAC (heating, ventilation and cooling) changes can contribute even more – something as simple as cleaning your furnace’s air filter monthly during heavy usage times can make a big difference.
Shade your east and west facing windows to prevent the most brutal heat intrusion during summer months. And if your house doesn’t already possess dual-pane energy-efficient windows, why not start replacing those windows slowly, but start with those that receive the most intense sun exposure first?
Saving heat generating activities such as dishwashers and cooking until the evening hours can help you ease up on cooling costs as well as your local... | |

| | The $9 bill! | | Did you know that about 10 cents in every dollar you spend pays for the packaging that you throw in the trash? That means that that $10 bill you are holding will only buy $9 worth of goods (including tax)! Not only that but you pay your city rates, no doubt, and quite a big proportion of that goes on collecting and disposing of your trash every week! You are paying twice (and more) for stuff you just throw away as soon as you have bought it!"What good is that to me?" you say, "It's the manufacturers who decide on the packaging. There's not a lot I can do about it!"I agree that it's not something that can be accomplished overnight but here are some things you can do (edited from MSN Shopping - http://shopping.msn.com/content/shp/?ctId=4161 )1. Buy in Bulk — Size matters. When you buy the largest quantity of a product you can use, you help reduce the waste in packaging. About one third of America’s trash is just the packages all our stuff came in and about 10 cents of every dollar we spend goes to pay for the packaging we throw away. If you buy in bulk, you also save quite a bit on gas!2. Buy recycled products — The more demand there is for products made from... | |
