outdoor lighting lantern Discussions And How To's
Outdoor furniture, outdoor lighting, outdoor rugs... Need advice!
We are moving in the next few weeks, and my excitement level is growing by the minute, but so is my anxiety. I have always lived in an apartment with no outdoor space of my own. Our new place, however, has a screened-in, roof-covered patio, which means I now have the opportunity to buy outdoor stuff. LOTS of outdoor stuff. My problem is that I don't know what to buy, and I have a lot of related questions. Really, I am downright clueless.I live in a climate with harsh winters and somewhat hot and definitely sticky summers, which will definitely influence what I will or won't want to purchase.I want to buy a table and chair set. The set will stay outdoors year round, but I will store the cushions indoors when the weather turns colder. So what materials hold up the longest over the course of several winters? Painted metal? Plastic? Resin? Wicker? Wood? How about a glass tabletop versus any other kind of tabletop?I really like the idea of indoor/outdoor rugs. From what I have read, all I will need to do to clean it is a quick rub with a mild detergent for spot cleaning and then hosing it off. Sounds easy enough. For those of you who have these, is this how you clean them?...
BASKETBALL OUTDOOR LIGHTING
We would like to know the details of outdoor lighting system for basketball. For example the height of poles, type of light, number of poles & lights thanking you, Sincerely yours, Dr.S.Duttasus any other kind of tabletop?I really like the idea of indoor/outdoor rugs. From what I have read, all I will need to do to clean it is a quick rub with a mild detergent for spot cleaning and then hosing it off. Sounds easy enough. For those of you who have these, is this how you clean them? Can they stay outdoors year round, or will I need to roll it up and bring it in during the winter? Odds are that snow will pile up on it and the whole thing may freeze and thaw several times during the season. It will freeze. Will this destroy it? What else do I need to know? There are no power outlets in the patio room, and I cannot do any wiring work because we are renting the property. Besides candles or running an extension cord from inside, how can I light the room?I am looking...
Are You Afraid Of The Things That Go "Bump" In The Night?
Halloween is almost here. The trees are barren, the air has grown cold and the shadows stretch across the yards, blanketing the neighborhoods in darkness. When you go out at night, the full moon alone lights your way. In the darkness, you glimpse things that are probably nothing more than garbage cans, or a parked car, or the remnants of a picket fence. But then you look again, and for just an instant, you see something staring back at you from the dark, from the night....and you feel the scream roll in the back of your throat just long enough to almost escape your lips. But then you realize that it's nothing more than your imagination. It's not really a spectre glaring at you...it's not a monster or a psychopath waiting to strike out at you, it's just the fencepost, it's just a garbage can, it's just....halloween.Do you find yourself creeped out by this time of year? What is it that makes us all just a little uneasy about the growing darkness? Maybe it's nothing more than an irrational fear of the dark. Maybe it's something more?? Tell us about your worst fears and share with us any great ghost stories that might make this Halloween just a little more spooky for anyone who...
10 ways to live greener
What will you do to contribute?1. Get a High-Efficiency Showerhead A high-efficiency showerhead saves up to 3,000 gallons of water per person per year. You’ll also save $50 of energy costs and 1,000 .lbs of carbon dioxide per person per year. Today's latest and greatest are specially designed to conserve resources while still feeling like a decadent showerhead. Sink aerator attachments also save major water and go for as little as $2 per sink.2. Recycle Water in Your Bathroom Use devices such as the Sink Positive system, which allows you to reuse sink water for flushing your toilet. Or keep a bucket by the shower or tub and fill it with the cold water that comes out before the hot water kicks in. Then you can take the bucket outside and use it to water your plants.3. Compost Use a composter to turn your food and lawn wastes into rich mulch. It's a great way to reduce your trash production, and the combination of food waste and all of those falling leaves is the perfect mix for composting. Next spring you'll have rich compost ready to go for spring planting.4. Purchase Green Power From Your Utility Most charge less than $5 per month extra. Not only will your...
Why is it so dark outside? It's only six PM!
On the east coast, it's just past six P.M and already it's pitch black outside. Just thirty minutes ago, the sun was setting and the sky started turning pink and purple. And, an hour before that, the sky was ultra clear and sunny as if it were noon. It's weird to think that darkness and night can settle in so quickly. Most times during the summer, we like to go outside around six P.M, to enjoy the early evening. It's always so nice and cool. Not scorching hot, like the middle of the day. Most times during the summer and late summer it's daylight till almost nine P.M in our area. But now, it's getting way too dark at that time to even go outdoors. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as if it's getting darker much sooner this time of year. How early does it get dark where you live? Do you find that it's getting darker much earlier this year than it was last year?
What Is Light Pollution?
Light pollution is a growing worldwide problem which affects vast areas of the earth. In a nutshell, Light Pollution is misdirected or misused light... generally resulting from an inappropriate application of outdoor lighting products. Light Pollution comes in several flavors... each with its own negative effects. These are…Sky Glow: light wastefully escaping into the night sky and causing a glow over urban/suburban areas. Glare: light shining dangerously out into people’s eyes as they walk or drive by.Light Trespass: unwanted light shining onto a neighbor’s property or into their home. Why should I care?Light pollution impacts us all... in many ways. Some of these are quite obvious, others are much less obvious. For starters....Light pollution wastes billions of dollars annually in the United States. 5 to 10 billion depending on whose numbers you want to use.Light pollution wastes incredible amounts of valuable natural resources. Hundreds of millions of barrels of oil... and hundreds of millions of tons of coal... just so people can light the bottoms of clouds?Light pollution pollutes the air we breath through needless generation of electricity (most...
